Alan Dershowitz Is Defending Two January 6th Defendants

Alan Dershowitz Is Defending a January 6th Official

( – Police officers reportedly allowed some of the 800 individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, riot into the US Capitol Building that fateful day. The question before the courts is: Did the accused knowingly and purposely commit crimes? That’s what famed Havard law professor Alan Dershowitz wants to know.

Dershowitz represents two January 6 defendants facing up to 20 years in prison for entering the Capitol Building on that day. On Wednesday, April 6, a federal judge acquitted a defendant after evidence showed Capitol Police officers waving protestors into the building. US District Judge Trevor McFadden said the defendant reasonably believed police gave him permission to enter the building.

Dershowitz said that the January defendants had a First Amendment right to protest the election outside the Capitol building. Once police invited protestors into the building, as evidenced by the video, the law professor said it was no longer a crime to enter the Capitol Building. Dershowitz added that Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) was not applying equal standards when prosecuting individuals involved in Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots that plagued the nation’s cities for more than a year after George Floyd’s death at the hands of police officers in May 2020.

Some of those rioters caused damage to federal buildings and courthouses. Dershowitz stated there couldn’t be a double standard where there are rules for one group on the Right and different rules for groups on the Left.

Stay tuned. In the coming days and weeks ahead, things could get embarrassing for prosecutors and Democrats if judges and juries refuse to accept the prosecutor’s theories.
