(TheRedWire.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Select Committee looking into the January 6 incident at the Capitol has had quite a bit of backlash from those who feel it is a waste of time and resources. The group has also hit some bumps when trying to secure information, documents, and other evidence. Alex Jones is the latest to try to avoid the panel’s scrutiny.
On December 20, Jones, a Conservative radio host, filed a lawsuit against Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) and the committee to stop them from securing his phone records and compelling him to testify. The panel subpoenaed him for a deposition on January 10, but court files from the case indicate he plans to invoke the Fifth Amendment.

The lawsuit raises concerns about First Amendment violations. He claims the committee is ignoring his right not to testify based on protected journalistic activity. Jones notes in the case documents that he has concerns about the group citing him for contempt of Congress because he is exercising his rights.
The panel justified its requests, saying Jones helped organize a rally leading to the Capitol attack and assisted with the funding of the events that day. The Select Committee also claimed he made repeated remarks about election fraud and encouraged people to speak out against the 2020 election results.
Jones said he tried to submit written answers to questions and voluntarily hand over documents, but the Committee refused to allow that. He also accused the Committee of not dealing with previous individuals fairly. According to Jones, they have made it apparent they have an agenda to persecute those with different political viewpoints.
