(TheRedWire.com) – Fox News Digital recently reported that the Coast Guard spokesperson has stated that since July, many boats have suffered from bandit attacks in the Oakland and Alameda marinas.
According to the report, the maritime burglars will often steal everything inside the boar and leave it behind or sink it. Some burglars are also suspected of similarly stealing from yachts and houseboats in San Francisco Bay. Those caught by the Coast Guard in that area were handed over to the Oakland police.
The report has further noted that at least one suspect is currently facing charges for possession of stolen property. Investigators are determining whether a federal case can be built against him.
Paul Chambers, the spokesperson for the Oakland police, wrote in an email to Fox News Digital that after months of thefts in the area, they believe that they have been connected and that two people were responsible for more of the incidents. He added that there had been a surge in crime in the area, likely because of the few “new anchor-out persons” that have recently settled in the Oakland Estuary.
Case detectives have stated that they are trying to establish communication with the victims and the local harbor masters to look into each incident. They have also requested that anyone with information regarding the burglaries contact the Oakland Police Department Marine Unit.
