(TheRedWire.com) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has alleged that the House GOP is led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and not by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

Ocasio-Cortez accused McCarthy of often “choosing to side with the extremists” following his recent attempts to balance out the small Republican majority in the House. During an interview with Jen Psaki on  MSNBC’s Inside, the Democratic representative stated that she believed that “Marjorie Taylor Greene (is) running the caucus.” She further added that Greene makes several statements that would support this statement. She added that “Every time something irks her, she communicates that McCarthy is doing her bidding,” which Ocasio-Cortez argued is very clear.

She proceeded to state that McCarthy is currently in a precarious position as he is “stuck between having to please the most racist and heinous elements of this party” and trying to maintain the majority. At the same time McCarthy is predominantly “choosing to side with the extremists,” she added.

The New York Democrat further argued that she does not believe that McCarthy would be able to have the necessary votes in order to pass a debt ceiling increase, despite the Speaker frequently stating that he has enough votes. Greene has been one of McCarthy’s vocal allies and was even one of the people who defended him in January when he was trying to win the House speaker election.

Greene has also closely aligned with the New Congress, and according to a New York Times report in January, McCarthy has privately said that he would “always take care of” Greene because of her loyalty.
