(TheRedWire.com) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has become a hero fighting in the trenches to save his country. He has been clear he may not make it out of this situation alive, and he almost became a victim of a recent assassination plot against him.
Russian spies managed to halt an assassination attempt against Zelenskyy. March 1 reports on Ukrainian television explained the Chechen Republic sent a hit squad after the president, but Ukrainian forces neutralized them before the would-be killers could harm the president.

Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov explained the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, who wish to stay out of the conflict, tipped off officials to the assassination plan. He then noted Ukrainian troops destroyed the Chechen Kadyrovites group sent to carry out the deed.
Kadyrovites are a paramilitary group with a questionable history involving human rights abuses and violations. Acting almost as a personal guard unit, they answer to the Head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Despite the risks to his life, Zelenskyy has refused to evacuate from his country. He continues to say he must stay and fight for his people despite multiple offers of safety.
