(TheRedWire.com) – Apparently, at least one liberal and left-leaning socialist politician would rather use everyone’s taxpayer dollars to help people, even their own family members, instead of privately raised funds.
In 2017, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico as a massive Category 5 storm, destroying infrastructure and leaving many of the beautiful island’s homes in need of major repairs. According to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), her grandmother was in dire straits. In a show of political expediency, she blamed former President Donald Trump. The leftist firebrand alleged that Trump blocked aid to the small US territory after he alleged that Puerto Rico’s government was corrupt and incompetent.

While AOC raked in an annual salary of $174,000 as a member of Congress, a conservative group raised money to help AOC’s grandma on GoFundMe. Conservative commentator Matt Walsh says the “family” will not accept the more than $100,000 gift raised to help rebuild AOC’s grandmother’s house. As a result of AOC’s family’s unwillingness to graciously accept the private donations, GoFundMe turned off the donations and said all contributions made to the campaign would be refunded.
Once again, the Left would allow politics to get in the way of helping people, even their own family, if they think it will make a point.
