Biden Administration Wants to Reinstate Death Penalty

(TheRedWire.com) – Conservatives regularly call out President Joe Biden for his hypocrisy. When similar criticism comes from the Left, an abandoned promise is likely to blame. His stance on the death penalty is one such case.

During the 2020 presidential campaign, Biden pledged to end federal executions and pass legislation to end the practice. He claimed the death penalty was loaded with the potential for mistakes and was irredeemably unfair when the criminal justice system gets it wrong.

Biden worked aggressively in his first 100 days signing executive orders, presumably to appease the Leftist base. Most of them overturned Trump-era policies. However, it’s been nearly six months, and his administration has been quiet regarding the death penalty.

Then it happened. On Tuesday, June 15, the Biden administration submitted a brief in the Boston Marathon bomber case. The Department of Justice (DOJ) defended the death penalty and advocated for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s execution for his role in “one of the worst” terrorist acts in the US since 911.

The 1st Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Tsarnaev’s death sentence on July 31, 2020. The court said that the trial judge didn’t protect him against potential jury bias. The Trump DOJ brought the case to the Supreme Court, requesting the high court reinstated the death penalty for Tsarnaev’s violent act.

In a shocking surprise to the Democrats’ left-wing base, the Biden DOJ is sticking with the Trump administration’s position that the Boston Marathon bomber should be executed in its revised court brief.

Biden rarely goes against the Left these days, but perhaps this is a preview of some coming attractions. One can hope.
