(TheRedWire.com) – If someone does something nice for you, it may be hard not to repay the kindness. Yet, what if the recipients are senior government officials, and the people doing nice things are America’s adversaries? Is the perception of corruption real when the government knows the intention behind being wined and dine? Perhaps the answer is in the eye of the beholder.
It appears former Clinton Treasury Secretary and Obama National Economic Council Director turned economic advisor to President Joe Biden, Lawrence Summers, may have some explaining to do after authorities caught Summers collaborating with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In 2019, Summers appeared on a show launched by The China United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF). He praised the CCP as a government that produced economic miracles over the last 40 years. More recently, Summers told a Chinese think tank he had enormous respect for Chinese policymakers.

So, was Summers merely being polite, or is there more to the story? The US government says the CUSEF exists to influence and neutralize potential opposition to the CCP. It attempts to exert pressure on leaders of foreign governments to take action or support policies from Beijing. It often offers free trips and other bribes to US journalists, members of Congress, and other government leaders in exchange for favorable views and considerations.
