(TheRedWire.com) – Speaker Kevin McCarthy, during a private screening, told Fox News that to secure the U.S. border, the first thing they would need to address is human trafficking. As he argued, currently, many children were being trafficked into the U.S. because they thought the border was open.

The U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline revealed that in 2021 they had received more than 10,300 human trafficking incident reports.

Members of Congress attended a screening of the movie “Sound of Freedom,” based on former U.S. federal agent Tim Ballard, who had started Operation Underground Railroad a decade ago to address human trafficking after he had saved two children in South America who were being exploited.

In an interview with Fox News during the event, Ballard pointed out that the border policies right now were encouraging traffickers as unaccompanied minors who entered the U.S. could be released to anyone regardless of whether or not they were affiliated with them. He added that a program required biometric verification procedures to be used, but under President Biden, the contracts for that program had expired.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy, in his interview, touted the Republican House majority’s efforts to pass a border security package that included a change in the law related to unaccompanied children. He then called for the Senate to also take up the package.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services whistleblower Tara Lee Rodas noted that a “sophisticated network” was being used to bring child migrants into the U.S. and force them into modern-day slavery or forced labor positions.
