(TheRedWire.com) – President Joe Biden made an unscheduled trip to Wilmington, Delaware, on Tuesday after his son, Hunter Biden, was found guilty of three felony gun charges on Tuesday morning.
Biden’s trip also meant the anticipated White House press briefing would no longer take place.
In the hours after the guilty verdict, the President added the trip to his home in Delaware to his schedule. Biden left for Joint Base Andrews, departing on Air Force One at 3 p.m. (PST) and would arrive at Delaware Air National Guard base.
The President made the trip immediately after a previously scheduled gun safety speech in Washington.
After three hours of deliberation, the jury returned with its guilty verdict on Tuesday morning on all counts: one count relating to Hunter’s possession of the gun for eleven days and two counts relating to giving false statements on a federal gun form, when he selected “no” to whether he used illicit drugs or was addicted to them.
Biden will return to the White House before departing early on Wednesday morning for a G-7 summit in Italy, where he’ll be for the remainder of the week.
In a video of the President’s arrival in Delaware, Hunter Biden, Hunter’s son Beau, and his wife Melissa are seen crossing the tarmac to greet the President. The President then hugs Hunter.
Earlier on Tuesday, Biden revealed he would accept his son’s conviction, expressing how “proud” he was of the man Hunter had become.
Although the President didn’t attend any of the weeks-long trial, First Lady Jill Biden had been present at most of the trial, which aired Hunter’s addictions in great detail. She was also seen outside the courthouse moments after the jury returned with its guilty verdict.
