(TheRedWire.com) – President Joe Biden may have just announced his re-election campaign, but he is already preparing to potentially forfeit the New Hampshire primary to either Marianne Williamson or Robert Kennedy Jr.

This unusual situation has been created by Biden himself, as the new primary calendar the Democratic National Committee ratified following Biden’s request in February, demoted both Iowa and New Hampshire from being early states. As a result, candidates are not allowed to campaign there or even put their names on the state’s ballot.

The problem arises from the fact that both Iowa and New Hampshire are planning on disregarding the decision made by the DNC and proceeding with their contest as regular. Biden who lost both states in 2020 would as a result most likely need to forfeit the first unofficial races in 2024.

While the rules technically apply to Williamson and Kennedy as well, they have both expressed a willingness to potentially accept whatever penalties the DNC would have them face because of the rule violation if they run anti-establishment campaigns. For the most part, it is unlikely that Biden will be unable to win the Democratic nomination in 2024. However, it would be embarrassing if he lost to Williamson, a self-help author who has never served in office, or Kennedy, an anti-vaccine activist. It is likely that the Biden campaign is going to dismiss the outcome in these two states if Biden does not compete. Still, there might be concerns and questions about the possibility of Biden facing important challengers in the primary.
