(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its first political endorsement for President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election.

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Council 238, which as a union represents around 8,000 of the agency’s employees, stated that the endorsement had come because of Biden’s record in fighting climate change.

In a written statement AFGE Council 238 President Marie Owens Powell, noted that the union was proud to announce its first political endorsement in its history. She added that Biden was a leader who valued federal employees and was working hard in order to address the climate emergency.

She continued by slamming former President Donald Trump over his rhetoric surrounding climate change and argued that his comments had shown that he intended to destroy environmental agencies. As she claimed this showed that Trump’s possible second term in office is going to be “catastrophic.”

Trump during his time in office had rolled back many regulations relating to the environment, while also pushing against climate change being real. Biden however since taking over the White House has implemented significantly tighter rules in many regards in order to safeguard the U.S. economy.

During his time in office, Trump had removed federal workers’ workplace protection, while his reelection campaign has argued that if he wins back the White House he will be firing “career politicians” and “rogue bureaucrats.

The Biden administration as part of its recent rules has pushed forward one that would make it harder for federal workers to be dismissed.
