(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday, Republican Sens. John Barrasso, Ted Cruz, Pete Ricketts, and John Cornyn spoke up against the border policies of the Biden administration which have enabled the influx of migrants who are illegally entering the country through the southern border.
Senate Republican Conference chairman Barrasso stated on Tuesday during a press conference that he had just come back from a trip to the U.S.-Mexico border where he had seen clearly the effect of the open border policy followed by Joe Biden. He added that due to these policies, the U.S. was at an increased risk of a terrorist attack.
He argued that Border Patrol agents had seized immigrants who had been found carrying explosive devices that were “tailored for terrorism.”
Ricketts similarly argued following the two-day border trip on Thursday and Friday that these policies were exposing the U.S. and opening the way for a terrorist attack.
Cruz, who has in the past taken many groups of lawmakers to visit the southern border, stated that agents from Border Patrol were “frustrated” about having to put their lives on the line in order to catch “dangerous people” who were attempting to enter the country, only to have those people be released by their political superiors. He argued that this results in them needing to again catch the same people.
Cruz also noted that many minors are entering the country with older men, however, it is not clear whether they are related to one another. As he stated during the Trump administration they used to carry out DNA tests in these cases which helped show that around 30 percent of these pairs are usually unrelated. Still, they choose to enter as a family unit in order to receive preferential treatment.
