Following a busy schedule that included commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day in France and attending the G-7 Summit in Italy, Biden will use the serene setting of the presidential retreat to focus on debate preparations. The debate is scheduled for June 27.
Biden’s visit to Camp David is not without precedent; past presidents such as Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Barack Obama have similarly utilized the Maryland retreat for their debate preparations. In addition to his debate prep, Biden has also been engaging in fundraising activities, including an event in Los Angeles with celebrities George Clooney and Julia Roberts. A source close to Biden mentioned that the president could spend up to a week at Camp David to prepare thoroughly for the debate.
Jen O’Malley Dillon, the chair of Biden’s reelection campaign, stated that the president plans to adopt an aggressive stance in the debate, challenging Trump on issues such as the overturning of Roe v. Wade and potential further restrictions on abortion rights. This strategy was outlined in a campaign memo.
Meanwhile, at a rally in Lasolitas Vegas, Trump has raised the stakes by challenging Biden to undergo a cognitive and a drug test before the debate, declaring his willingness to do the same. Trump’s campaign has indicated that he will not be engaging in formal debate preparations.
