(TheRedWire.com) – On Wednesday, President Biden stated that he would welcome a possible probe from the House GOP into the federal response to the devastating wildfires in Maui after stating everything that his administration has done thus far to assist in the recovery of the island.

Following Biden’s remarks from the White House about the wildfires in Maui and Hurricane Idalia, a reporter asked for his response to the House Republicans stating that they would launch an investigation into his administration’s response to the wildfires.

Biden, in response, stated that the House Republicans should go and ask elected officials, including the local mayors, governors, and Senators, about the federal response to the Maui recovery efforts. Previously

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D) and Sens. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) have thanked the federal administration for their efforts after the wildfire killed over 100 people and destroyed large areas on the island. President Biden also revealed that the White House would be allocating $95 million to be used for strengthening the electrical grid on the island following the wildfires and vowed that the federal government would continue to support the rebuilding efforts while respecting Maui traditions.

This week, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee announced they would investigate the federal response to the recovery efforts. The idea of a probe in the response was first proposed by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who stated he had concerns about the response efforts.  Republicans have also been very critical of Biden as he did not immediately visit the island after the wildfires.
