(TheRedWire.com) – Residents of East Palestine, Ohio have said that it was “absurd” and “ridiculous” to place the blame for the train derailment on former President Donald Trump.

Following the derailment of a train that transported toxic chemicals, there was a toxic spill in the area as 38 out of the trains 150 cars were derailed. Twenty cars on the train transported toxic chemicals, and 11 of those were derailed. In a recent statement, the Secretary of Transportation insinuated that the Trump administration had been partially responsible for contributing to the incident.

Following the spill, the Environmental Protection Agency detected a number of toxic substances in the soil and waterways, which include the Ohio river. Out of fear of a possible massive explosion, emergency responders also made controlled burns of vinyl chloride, which resulted in the release of hydrogen chloride and phosgene, both of which were released into the air.

In a statement by the National Transportation Safety Board on Tuesday they noted that they were conducting a full investigation into the reasons for the derailment and had suggested that a wheel bearing failing on one of the cars was the most likely reason for the incident.

The NTSB noted that investigators had identified which car had initiated the derailment. They also added that the CCTV footage may have captured the moment when “a wheel bearing in the final stage of overheat failure moments before the derailment.”
