(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday, Chris Christie, one of the Republican presidential candidates, stated that former President Donald Trump went to sleep each night thinking about the possibility that he might end up in jail as a result of the 37-count federal indictment filed against him in connection to the classified documents he held in his Mar-a-Lago estate after exiting the White House in 2021.
Christie stated the indictment leads him to believe that Trump will be convicted and might even end up in jail if the case goes to trial. In an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Christie, who previously served as the governor of New Jersey, argued that Trump would probably look into getting a plea deal rather than go to trial. He alleges that despite Trump’s previous claims that he is not scared, he is.
Christie, one of the most vocal oppositions that Trump is facing, argued that he was trying to avoid going to jail, which is why he might end up taking a plea deal to avoid jail time. He proceeded to note that the Department of Justice always offers a plea deal, which is why it is likely that they will also provide one to Trump. If he turns that deal down, he will go to trial, where he might be convicted.
Christie argued that regardless of what Trump is saying and claiming about not being afraid, he is scared and going to bed considering the possibility of hearing a jail cell door closing each night.
