(TheRedWire.com) – Republicans argue that Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s January 6 Select Committee is a partisan investigation and not an impartial review of the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill. The nine-member committee is composed of seven Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans. Over the last month, they’ve subpoenaed several former Trump officials and confidants in their quest for answers about the riot. The latest victim is former Trump adviser and current conservative radio host, Sebastian Gorka.

Gorka recently sued the panel, Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and the committee’s top staff after the committee issued a subpoena on December 15 for his phone records. The radio personality alleges the group abused its power by unlawfully demanding Verizon turn over his call log.
Gorka’s attorneys argue that the phone records don’t have a legitimate legislative purpose and that the committee is a partisan fishing expedition. Gorka wants the court to block Verizon from complying with the subpoena.
Gorka’s attorneys further stated that the 2017 Trump adviser had nothing to do with the rally or events that unfolded on that day. They said Gorka organizers invited him to speak outside the Supreme Court on January 6, but later canceled the speech. After watching some of the rally outside the White House, Gorka left, committed no crimes, and had no information to offer the committee.
The attorneys further stated that as a journalist, if the House could persecute him because of political sympathies, what could they do to any citizen to silence free speech?
