
(TheRedWire.com) – Jamal Wing, 47 from Delaware was arrested by State Police after he reportedly attempted to avoid being arrested by biting a police animal repeatedly on Saturday morning. The police pulled the man over in Wilmington, at around 1:40 a.m. for speeding. Wing reportedly got out of his Toyota Camry without being instructed to do so and did not listen to the officers who were instructing him to return to his vehicle.
The man was drunk during the encounter, which led to troopers and a K9 struggling to detain him. During his attempt to escape the police officers the man tried to repeatedly bite the DSP K9 dog. In time, they were able to apprehend the man who had suffered several injuries because of the incident. After his apprehension, it was made evident that the man had been drinking as he smelled of alcohol.
He was then taken to the hospital for treatment, but while there he attempted to escape from the troopers again and even managed to cause damage to police property.
Wing also injured two troopers and the K9 dog which were taken for medical evaluation.
Wing has been charged with one count of assaulting a law enforcement animal, driving under the influence, two counts of assaulting a police officer as well as several other charges relating to disorder caused, excessive speeding, and failure to have the necessary insurance. He is also arrested on two counts of resisting with force or violence.
Wing is currently being held on a $34,200 cash bond at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
