SHOCKING: Democrat Star Abruptly RESIGNS From Congress

(TheRedWire.com) – After the Florida primaries ended on August 23, Rep Charlie Crist (D-FL) had a new campaign to run. He beat the Sunshine State’s only statewide elected official, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), leaving nothing between him and the governor’s mansion but one more election in November. To prepare, the congressman decided to free up some time.

On August 31, Crist announced his retirement from the United States House of Representatives, effective at the end of the day. His seat will remain vacant until voters pick a new representative — on the same day Crist hopes to win another Florida Gubernatorial race.

Crist served as the state’s Republican governor from 2007 to 2011 before going independent. He later decided to switch to the blue side. As such, he’ll run as a Democrat against incumbent Governor Ron DeSantis (R) in just over two months.

The move from Congress gives Crist the time he needs to mount a campaign against the popular sitting governor, who already has a knack for fundraising and a slew of legislative victories to ride into the big day. While many see DeSantis as an easy favorite, Crist’s entry into the race full-time might force the chief executive into high gear.
