(TheRedWire.com) – On Monday, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried was one of the people arrested for protesting Florida’s new abortion ban.

The Florida Senate had passed on that same day a ban against most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. House Republicans are also expected to pass a version of this bill through their chamber soon.

Fried was the one to share photos of being escorted away by police in handcuffs. In the photos she had written the caption: “I’m out. And not ever backing down. Just f—ing vote @FlaDems!!!”

Fried was not the only one arrested by Tallahassee police outside the Florida Capitol. According to Florida Planned Parenthood Action dozens of protestors were arrested, including the state’s Senate Democratic leader, Lauren Book.

Following the passing of the bill, Book said that “Florida is on a roll today… banning abortions & signing permitless concealed carry into law.” She then proceeded to add that women’s bodies were now more regulated than guns were in the state.

Last year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill that banned abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, but this newest ban would set even stricter regulations on the window in which abortions are allowed.

The Florida Democratic Party in their own post pointed out that Fried had been arrested for advocating for the right of women to choose. They further argued they would continue to defend abortion rights in the state.
