(TheRedWire.com) – Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie blasted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday for his handling of the conflict with Disney, stating that the way he is acting is not like a “conservative.”
In an interview with Semafor, Christie claimed that DeSantis’ actions of using the government to bully Disney is not the action that he should be taking just because the company had opposed the governor’s education reform bill. The conflict between DeSantis and Disney has been going on for more than a year and it stems from Disney’s reaction to DeSantis’ so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
During the interview, Christie stated that he is a conservative, which means that he believes that the government needs to “stay out of the business of business.” He added that the way DeSantis is acting does not fit what conservatives would do.
He proceeded to question where the country was going, and if expressing disagreement could potentially mean that the government would try to punish you, adding that this is something that liberals would do and not something that conservatives would do.
DeSantis is currently in a battle with Disney over the development rights for Reedy Creek Improvement District, where Disney World is located. DeSantis has been trying to take control of the district, but Disney successfully blocked his attempts by signing a development deal. DeSantis is now trying to undo the deal made between Disney and the previous board.
