(TheRedWire.com) – On Monday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) accused President Biden of dismissing domestic issues following his surprise trip to Kyiv, Ukraine in a move that was meant to solidify the U.S.’ solidarity with Ukraine during their war with Russia.
During an interview with Fox News, DeSantis noted that there was a growing list of problems that required attention within the U.S. and instead President Biden was choosing to neglect those in favor of a surprise visit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Biden’s visit to Ukraine came a few days before the one-year anniversary of the unprovoked Russian invasion of the country, which has resulted in an ongoing war. The President has insisted that the trip was meant to help showcase both the Ukrainian strength as well as the U.S.’ commitment to continue providing assistance to the war-torn country. He further announced that $500 million in American support was going to be given to Ukraine.
However, the Republicans were quick to criticize Biden’s decision to take this trip instead of focusing on key domestic issues. As DeSantis noted, Americans are going to be looking at Biden wondering why he is spending his time focusing on a different country’s border when he is failing to pay attention to the problems in the southern border. Republicans have long maintained the border is not secure because of the millions of immigrants that have illegally crossed into the U.S. over the past year. He added that currently there are key national security issues that also need to be dealt with following the Chinese spy balloon which was shot down by the U.S. military earlier in February.
