(TheRedWire.com) – On Monday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) dismissed the speculations that Casey DeSantis, his wife, was interested in running for public office.
During a press conference, DeSantis had been asked if it was possible that his wife would run in the 2026 gubernatorial election after he finished his second term in office. He replied by noting that some people had suggested that she could potentially be a gubernatorial candidate because of her work as the first lady.
However, DeSantis noted that if he were to characterize how interested she was in joining the political sphere as a candidate the answer would be zero. He added that she has had a “front-row seat” to the nonsense that went on when someone was involved in politics.
In Florida, governors are only allowed to serve for two consecutive terms in office which has resulted in a lot of speculation regarding who will be the next governor of Florida in 2026. A Florida Atlantic University (FAU) recent poll found that around 38 percent of respondents have claimed that they would prefer Casey DeSantis as a candidate over Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) who only received 16 percent support.
Last month the poll also determined that 26 percent of responders did not know who to support, while 20 percent argued that they would support a different candidate. Last year, DeSantis joined the 2024 presidential race before withdrawing from the race earlier this year and endorsing former President Donald Trump.
Casey DeSantis, his wife, has launched a number of initiatives during her time as first lady in the state and has been an important figure during her husband’s time in office.
