(TheRedWire.com) – Dolly Parton released her classic song “Jolene” in 1973, and it was one of her first number one country hit singles. Over the years, at least 30 artists have remixed and recorded the popular song. Noted rapper Lil Nas X recently joined that list. Parton posted a tweet about his rendition shortly after its release. She said his performance was excellent. She also wrote that she was flattered and honored.

Containing only 200 words, Parton’s song has a simple but memorable melody. Parton took her inspiration from meeting an 8-year-old girl named Jolene. The name resonated in her head, and Dolly knew she wanted to tell a story using it. A lady at the bank loved to shower her husband with compliments, a completely innocent gesture, but it inspired Parton to form the rest of the story for the enduring song.
Initially, Lil Nas X said he was considering a Nirvana song. Jokingly, he brought up Jolene as an option for the CD. Once it came out of his mouth, he knew he had to perform a rendition of the song. The rapper said he enjoys country music, adding that due to his past with the genre, it’s perfect. The rest is history.
