Top Senate Candidate THREATENED at Gunpoint!
(TheRedWire.com) – Independent US Senate candidate and former CIA agent Evan McMullin is taking on conservative Republican Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). Earlier this year, the Senate hopeful and his wife experienced a brush with political violence while heading home from an April campaign event. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that a 44-year-old man in a large pickup truck allegedly forced the couple’s vehicle into oncoming traffic and pointed a gun at them. The Senate hopeful said they did nothing to spur his behavior and called 911 while attempting to flee from the assailant.
On Saturday, August 27, McMullin told CNN anchor Jim Acosta the man appeared bent toward political violence, according to his social media pages. The paper withheld the suspect’s name. The former CIA agent said he put himself and his family at risk. He stated he would do everything possible to protect them and hold the person accountable for his actions.

According to the Tribune, the impact statement provided by McMullin to police stated the man was a former military police officer who knew what he was doing. The defendant pleaded not guilty to two charges in July. Acosta remarked that the man’s attorney disputed his version of events. Still, the candidate noted the authorities charged him for threatening them with his gun and said his wife informed law enforcement he did have the weapon in his possession.
