(TheRedWire.com) – Henry Winkler, who became famous for his role as “The Fonz” on “Happy Days,” shared an encounter with the FBI on the “SmartLess” podcast. Winkler, now 78, had recounted how the FBI agents had visited him home. As he stated originally he was worried the visit was due to some marijuana he had in his apartment, however, it appeared in the end that the agents had just wanted to meet “The Fonz.”
In his 2023 memoir, Winkler offers further insights into his rise to fame and the challenges it brought. The book details the unforeseen popularity of his character the Fonz and how that had tested his relationship with other cast members.
The popularity of the Fonz even led ABC president Leonard Goldenson to suggest that the show be renamed “Fonzie’s Happy Days,” which Winkler had opposed.
In 1980, at the start of the eighth season, Winkler had been informed of Howard’s departure. Howard went on to become a successful director releasing films like “Apollo 13” and “A Beautiful Mind.”
Despite the upheaval, Winkler and Howard maintained a strong bond. Winkler is the godfather of Howard’s daughter, actress Bryce Dallas Howard. As he noted Howard and his wife had also entrusted that should a misfortune occur Winkler can take care of their children.
Winkler’s memoir expresses a lot of gratitude for the show while also expressing respect for all his colleagues. It also details career and personal highs and lows.
