Feds Go WOKE In Response to Drug Overdoses
(TheRedWire.com) – While Americans continue to suffer from drug overdoses, the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, continue to focus on pushing politics like Critical Race Theory. According to the New York Times, drug overdose deaths increased 15% in 2021, which was President Joe Biden’s first year in office. It is a concerning issue that many Americans want resolved, but it can be hard to reach a resolution if the leaders in charge of problem-solving focus on other matters.
SAMHSA is a federal government agency under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). According to an agency document titled Guidance for Improving Staff Engagement, the paper directs agency staff to conduct an implicit bias test before referring to protests as riots or using the phrase “all lives matter.”

SAMHSA’s website says the agency’s purpose is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness. Still, the website downplays the issues. It only uses the word “mental health” six times, while “substance use” and “substance abuse” appear only three times throughout the text. “Privilege” appears four times, “racism” 12 times, and “White” 19 times.
Additionally, one resource instructed Caucasian workers to join the fight to defund the police. Another said Whiteness was a structural privilege, caused violence, and created European imperialism. The website also highlighted various influencers of Critical Race Theory and encouraged people to read their materials.
So, has the encouragement of diversity helped SAMHSA fulfill its mission, or are they focusing on the wrong things?
