Footage Released: Democratic Rep Arrested For Drunken Car Crash

(TheRedWire.com) – Americans know that driving drunk is illegal, and yet people do it all too often. A Democratic Michigan state Representative not only got caught behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol, but he also threatened to take action as an elected official against the police. On April 6, 26-year-old Rep. Jewell Jones got caught driving erratically on Interstate 96 before crashing his SUV in a ditch.

Michigan State Police arrived on the scene. Dashcam video caught Jones warning officers that he was a state representative and would call Michigan’s Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. He also told the police he would unleash the state government’s full power on them while claiming he runs the police budget. Police officers reported that Jones resisted arrest and they had to use a taser and pepper spray to gain control of him.

Jones refused a blood test. However, after police obtained a warrant, laboratory tests showed a blood alcohol level of 0.19, double the legal limit. Authorities charged him with driving drunk, possessing a weapon while intoxicated, reckless driving — and two felonies — resisting arrest and obstructing officers.

His choices and behavior may not allow him to be state representative for much longer.
