(TheRedWire.com) – Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has been pushing for the Senate Homeland Security Committee to probe into Biden’s administration’s “baffling response” to reports of a Chinese surveillance balloon crossing the U.S.

According to reports, the balloon flew over missile installations in Montana, which originally triggered alarms at the Pentagon. Hawley has noted that they were obliged to look into what surveillance the Chinese government was currently using and that the so far response of the Biden administration has been “baffling.” Hawley added that the Biden administration needed to provide more information on why they were only monitoring the balloon currently and were not trying to bring it down. He further said that even the existence of the balloon within American airspace was “a gross violation of American sovereignty.”

Hawley on Feb. 3 wrote a letter to Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Gary Peters (D-Mich.) calling the incident disturbing and noting that an investigation was necessary. He also argued that senior members of the administration needed to provide more information so that their response to this entire incident could be better understood.

Hawley also rejected the Chinese foreign ministry’s claims that the balloon was used for weather equipment but that it had drifted off accidentally and reached the United States.
