(TheRedWire.com) – Turning Point USA was originally founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk. Since then the group has become one of the most prominent names in the young conservative space, frequently holding rallies that featured many prominent conservatives. The group closely cooperated with both former President Donald Trump and his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.

However, following the GOP’s underwhelming midterm performance there are many Republicans who are questioning the actual reach of the group. These questions have been particularly stirred by the fact the candidates that the group supported in Arizona, which is the main base for its operations, did not manage to win their election.

This is not the only problem that Turning Point USA is currently facing. In fact, they appear to be losing their key supporter Trump. Sources close to Donald Trump told NBC News that the former President was frustrated that Kirk had worked with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Another close adviser to Trump said that the former President has been “watching” the relationship between the two men after the organization held rallies over the summer where DeSantis was the headliner.

Kirk also tried to influence the Republican National Committee chair election by being vocally against incumbent chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel. McDaniel had been handpicked for the job by Trump himself.

DeSantis in an interview with Kirk had praised her challenger Harmeet Dhillon, who Kirk had also spoken positively about.
