Feds ARREST Top Democrat’s Opponent Right Before Important Election
(TheRedWire.com) – In the swing state of Michigan, a former township planning commissioner and real estate broker who opposed Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) COVID policies is running as a Republican for Governor. On Thursday, June 9, the FBI arrested Republican gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley for his alleged role in the January 6, 2021, riot on Capitol Hill. Federal prosecutors charged Kelley with knowingly entering or remaining on the Capitol grounds without permission, disorderly and disruptive conduct, and intentionally engaging in violence while on US federal government property.

Republicans consider Whitmer a serious target after she forced the state to endure harsh COVID lockdowns, and after the media caught the governor breaking her own rules numerous times. Kelley has been a fierce critic of the governor and believes that something went wrong in the 2020 presidential election. The FBI said it received several anonymous tips and information from local law enforcement who know him.
Prosecutors do not allege that Kelley entered the Capitol building. Instead, campaign Manager Karla Wagner told the local media that Kelley’s arrest was an intimidation tactic and a calculated move by those in higher elected offices.
Wagner said Kelley has emerged in recent weeks as a frontrunner in the upcoming Republican primary on August 2. She noted her boss never shied away from admitting he was at the pro-Trump rally on January 6 and went there to express his concern that the presidential election was stolen.
It’s too early to tell if the news of his arrest will help or hurt Kelley with Republican voters.
