(TheRedWire.com) – Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) stated that he would “absolutely” still consider running for the White House only one week after stating that he would not be trying to win a reelection in the Senate.
During an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker, Manchin was asked whether he would still consider running for the White House. In the interview aired on Wednesday, the Senator replied that he would “do anything” for his country which means that he would consider it. He added that this is something every American needed to consider if they found themselves in a position where they could help save the United States.
Manchin added that he was completely terrified of the possibility of former President Donald Trump serving another term in the White House. However, as he pointed out he was also concerned that President Biden might have been potentially pushed “too far to the left.” This was why he would use all of his power to mobilize the moderates and those who were in the middle.
Last week, the Senator announced that he would not be seeking reelection in 2024 which could be a problem for the Democrats as Manchin is a Democrat Senator in a red state. His refusal to run for Senate again has also resulted in many people suspecting that he might be looking to launch a bid for the White House.
Following the news of his retirement, Biden praised Manchin for his work in passing a number of legislations with the help of other moderate Democrats.
