House GOP Conference Looks To Remove Liz Cheney From Leadership Position

(TheRedWire.com) – Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is in hot water in the halls of Congress and her home state of Wyoming. The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, the congresswoman is a staunch institutionalist who tepidly supported President Trump during his time in Washington, DC. With just days to go in the Trump presidency, Cheney voted for the impeachment article that falsely accused Trump of inciting a riot. Now, half of the Republican caucus in the House wants to strip her of her leadership post.

The 115 GOP signatures are more than enough for a debate and resolution calling for Cheney to resign as the House GOP Conference Chair. She was the only member of the caucus leadership to vote to impeach Trump.

Cheney’s growing problems within the halls of Congress are not isolated, either. According to the Wyoming GOP, party officials have been inundated with communications from dissatisfied voters over her impeachment vote. In recent days, popular Wyoming State Sen. Anthony Bouchard (R) stepped up to challenge her in the 2022 primary. Additionally, approximately 35,000 signatures have been collected in an online petition to recall Cheney, and she has received a formal censure from the Carbon County Republican Party.

Trump may be a former president, but his presence will loom large in the GOP for the foreseeable future.
