(TheRedWire.com) – Following the escalation in the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Iran has increased its rhetoric against the West and the United States.
Iran has been funding Hamas, which has been designated by the United States as a terrorist group. The group which is currently in control of the Gaza Strip organized on Oct. 7 an attack on southern Israel that resulted in more than 1,400 Israelis losing their lives while another 200 civilians were taken hostage. In retaliation for the attack, Israel bombed Gaza which reportedly led to more than 2,800 Palestinians losing their lives.
“Axis of Resistance,” which is an informal alliance made between regional militant groups and Iran” has noted that Iran is only going to intervene in the war if Israel launches an attack against Iran.
However, following the U.S. deploying two aircraft carriers and ships to the eastern Mediterranean in warning to Iran, Mohammad-Javad Larijani, an adviser of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that should the U.S. military intervene on Israel’s behalf it “would be a strategic mistake.”
He further stated on Iranian television that such a move from the U.S. would make the U.S. military a target for fighters across the region and would lead to the war being expanded beyond Gaza. He added that resistance forces also have “better opportunities” in areas of the Middle East outside of Gaza and that the presence of the U.S. in Iraq and Syria was “costly for them.” The Middle East Media Research Institute translated the interview given by the adviser.
