January 6th Conviction Leads to Another Suicide

Republican DEAD – Another Suicide Reported

(TheRedWire.com) – On June 27, Mark Aungst pleaded guilty to demonstrating or parading in a restricted building during the January 6, 2020, riot at the nation’s capital. The court returned him to Pennsylvania on his own recognizance and forbade him from returning to Washington, DC, for anything but court appearances. Facing a jail sentence and fines, the man, described by his family as a Christian and a patriot, took his own life.

The original charges against Aungst were far more severe. He was looking at serious jail time had the Department of Justice successfully prosecuted him on all offenses. While the original docket included “violently entering,” there’s no indication that Aungst was personally involved with any violence.

Before January 6, the deceased was a seemingly typical member of blue-collar American society. He worked as a gas field well-service technician in his family’s generational hometown of Lancaster. He leaves behind a daughter, granddaughter, and another on the way. Aungst is the second American convicted of crimes from that day who took his own life. Matthew Perna died by suicide in February while awaiting sentencing for obstructing Congress.

What do you think of the ongoing prosecution of participants in the Capitol Hill riot for non-violent misdemeanors?
