(TheRedWire.com) – Republicans have joined House Speaker Mike Johnson and Sen. J.D. Vance’s calls for Biden to step down as President.
In a statement, shortly after President Joe Biden announced he wouldn’t be seeking reelection after all, Johnson (R-Louisiana) claimed that if Biden isn’t “fit to run for President,” he isn’t “fit to serve as President,” and should “resign the office immediately.”
Vance (R-Ohio) joined the chorus of calls for Biden to resign, questioning how the President could “justify” remaining in office. Vance also added Biden’s withdrawal from the race proved former President Donald Trump had been “right all along about Biden not being mentally fit to serve as Commander-in-Chief.”
Other Congressional Republicans also called for Biden to resign, stating they didn’t see how he could remain the President for the rest of his term if he couldn’t run for office.
In a statement calling for Biden to resign “immediately,” GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik (New York) noted Biden’s inability to run for reelection meant “he is unable and unfit to serve as President.”
Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Oklahoma) posted to X, calling Biden to “resign immediately” for “the good of the country.”
Senator Josh Hawley (Missouri) also took to X to demand Biden resign, stating that if the President couldn’t “run a mere political campaign,” he couldn’t serve the remainder of his term in the Oval Office.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) questioned how Biden didn’t have the “mental acuity or cognitive ability” for a Presidential campaign but could “serve for 6 months as President.”
Congressional Republicans were joined by Arkansas’ GOP Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who also called for Biden to “resign immediately” as he was unfit to run for President and therefore couldn’t “serve as president.”
