(TheRedWire.com) – In the summer of 2020, social justice protests and riots overtook many urban communities in Democratic-led cities in the wake of George Floyd’s death while in police custody. The outcry sparked the “defund the police” movement over accusations police were systematically racist.
The Left alleged the only way to solve the racism problem was to defund the police, divert financial resources to social welfare programs and social workers, and in some cases, eliminate the police. Minneapolis, New York City, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Austin (among others) cut police budgets by tens of billions of dollars.

As the police presence diminished, violent crime exploded. On Monday, January 24, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged the crime surge was due, in part, to underfunding police departments. She couldn’t make herself say cities experiencing the crime defunded their police departments. Still, it was a stunning admission.
Continuing, Psaki said the Biden administration advocated for additional resources for local police departments, adding that President Joe Biden has consistently supported law enforcement throughout his career.
It that’s true, where’s the additional resources? Where’s increased funding for the police? And why do leading Democratic voices continue calling for the defunding of police departments and jail and prison closings?
