(TheRedWire.com) – Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) slammed the bipartisan Senate Border security deal that was unveiled by Congress this week. He added that Congress should not consider passing the bill and instead, the situation at the border should be made into one of the key issues in the 2024 election.

As part of the bipartisan deal, there is a complete overhaul of the asylum program. Additional funds will also be made available for new immigration officers, while the President will be given the authority to shut down the U.S. border in cases of emergency. The bill is also paired with foreign aid priorities.

Jordan in an interview with Fox Business argued that President Biden was not going to be assisting in fixing up a problem that he had deliberately created. He added that instead Congress needed to withhold federal funds for the immigration process and should completely close the U.S. border to all migrants without any exceptions.

He further proposed that no funds should be allocated for the processing or release of new migrants into the U.S. As he said it was time for them to push for a pause in the current situation and instead give the American people to choose in November over how they wanted the situation with the U.S. border to be handled. He added that letting the country choose is particularly important as the election is going to be Biden against former President Donald Trump who had the border under control.

The House GOP has already opposed the bipartisan Senate deal, with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) arguing that the bill was “dead on arrival” and that he refused to give the bill a vote even if it successfully passed through the Senate.
