Leaked Emails Describe Mayorkas’ Meeting With BP Agents

(TheRedWire.com) – After President Joe Biden assumed his post in January 2021, illegal immigration spiked to record numbers. According to the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), from October 2021 through September 2022, Border Patrol agents encountered 2,766,582 immigrants. That figure doesn’t include migrants who evaded officials. In addition, the agent’s total enforcement actions rose from only 683,178 in fiscal year 2018. Now, newly leaked emails describe how bad Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ meeting in January 2022 went with those who guard the southern boundary between the US and Mexico.

Recently, the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project obtained emails showing tension surrounding a meeting between Mayorkas and CBP agents. The watchdog group provided the documents to Fox News. The communications stated the gathering was “rough” as they told the Secretary the administration’s immigration policies weren’t “working.”

The emails came after Mayorkas met with agents who patrol the border around Yuma, Arizona. On January 26, Assistant Secretary of DHS public affairs Marsha Espinosa described the meeting as “rough” and said one agent turned his back on the Secretary during the entire session, except to ask one question.

Border patrol agents pressed Mayorkas and informed him they couldn’t patrol the border due to the administration’s policies. One agent reportedly told him that Yuma was in a better position under former President Donald Trump. The emails provided a window into the fallout from the event.
