(TheRedWire.com) –  Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) recently responded to former President Trump’s reposting of a meme that implied she had committed “treason.”

“Donald — This is the type of thing that demonstrates yet again that you are not a stable adult— and are not fit for office,” Cheney wrote on social platform X.

Cheney’s remark was in response to a post from MeidasTouch, which highlighted a screenshot of Trump sharing a meme on his Truth Social platform. The meme suggested Cheney should face televised military tribunals for treason, though it didn’t specify any particular allegations.

The meme stated, “Elizabeth Lynne Cheney is guilty of treason” and encouraged people to “Retruth if you want televised military tribunals.” Trump “retruthed” the meme on Sunday.

Previously, Trump had called for Cheney’s prosecution, accusing her and other members of the Jan. 6 select committee of deliberately withholding testimony and information during their investigation into the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Cheney has refuted these claims, labeling them as falsehoods.

Cheney, who served as the vice chair of the House Jan. 6 committee, has become one of the most vocal Republican critics of Trump. She lost her congressional seat in 2022, partly due to her prominent role on the committee.

In recent months, House Republicans have attempted to undermine the findings of the Jan. 6 committee. Last month, Trump demanded that the committee members be indicted after a federal judge ordered his ally Steve Bannon to report to jail.

“The unAmerican Weaponization of our Law Enforcement has reached levels of Illegality never thought possible before,” Trump posted last month. “INDICT THE UNSELECT J6 COMMITTEE FOR ILLEGALLY DELETING AND DESTROYING ALL OF THEIR ‘FINDINGS!'”

Steve Bannon reported to federal prison in Connecticut on Monday due to his contempt of Congress charges for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House committee investigating the January 6 riots.
