(TheRedWire.com) – On Wednesday, Representative Greene (Republican-Ga.) announced that another three media outlets would gain access to the security footage taken during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack. As she noted this is part of her promise to have the footage released.
In her post, Greene stated that three outlets would be gaining access to the tapes starting on Thursday. She further noted that Speaker of the House McCarthy (R-California), would be providing access to the tapes to Just the News founder John Solomon and Julie Kelly, a senior writer at American Greatness, however, there has been no mention of what the third outlet is going to be.
In the past few months, there have been many debates on whether the Jan. 6 tapes should be released to media outlets. These discussions intensified after McCarthy gave former Fox News host Tucker Carlson access to over 44,000 hours of footage from the Capitol attack. This led to many Democrats expressing concerns about how the access granted could harm security procedures currently in place at the Capitol.
Carlson used the footage he gained access to, to claim that the attack on the U.S. Capitol was “mostly peaceful chaos.” At the time, Greene had proceeded to question when the tapes would be released to the public through an online resource so that the American public could get to see what actually happened on that day. She further argued that this would allow the country to move on.
Last month, news organizations also filed a lawsuit to gain access to the footage after stating that federal agencies were not complying with their requests for access.
