(TheRedWire.com) – Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) fiercely advocates for the Second Amendment. On Saturday, December 10, she told those in attendance at the New York Young Republicans Club’s 100th Annual Gala that if she and Steve Bannon organized the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill, “it would’ve been armed.” Soon after, a firestorm of criticism erupted against her from the Left.
In Saturday’s speech, Greene dismissed the riot as a planned event. She said Conservatives and Trump supporters went into the Capitol without guns. She made her points after asking whether people really still believed she helped organize it.

Soon after, the White House condemned her comments as a “slap in the face.” The controversial conservative lawmaker replied, saying they need to learn “how sarcasm works.” She said she was making fun of President Joe Biden and Democrats who have made her a consistent target since January 6. She noted she would never back down from the Second Amendment.
Ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, a group of Georgia voters tried to get Greene disqualified from running for office. They say she violated the Constitution by inciting the riot. In May, a judge ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to link the Georgia Republican to the insurrection. The Fourteenth Amendment qualifies circumstances when those who took an oath and engaged in an insurrection or rebellion can serve in Congress or hold other government positions.
