(TheRedWire.com) – On Tuesday night, Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the Senate Minority Leader, put out a statement following former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s, R-Calif., ousting from office.

In the statement, he thanked McCarthy for his service and for reminding everyone during his time as House Speaker that their country was “worth fighting for.” He further praised McCarthy for addressing important causes despite the slim House majority and for using the opportunities available to protect the American people and their principles. He added that McCarthy’s willingness to address every challenge exhibited how to handle everything that comes with grace. As he pointed out, McCarthy’s willingness to always face upcoming issues was essential for preserving full faith and credit within the country.

McConnell continued by arguing that McCarthy had represented the concerns and hopes of the 20th congressional district in California in Washington and had always taken on his role with enthusiasm in the Capitol. He further noted that conservative principles always guided McCarthy and that he was grateful to have collaborated with him during his time as Speaker. He added that as a member of the House, he would continue with the important work he had undertaken during his time as Speaker.

Finally, McConnell praised McCarthy for his “unapologetic patriotism and unshakeable optimism,” which will continue guiding him.
