(TheRedWire.com) – On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) slammed the Democrats for criticizing the Supreme Court. The Washington Post op-ed came after Senate Democrats claimed they would try to pass an ethics bill for the Supreme Court in the following days.

In recent months there have been many ethics controversies surrounding the different justices of the Supreme Court, primarily as the country’s highest court has recently issued several controversial rulings.

McConnell, who has been integral for the confirmation of conservative judges during his time in office, spoke about the justice’s voting patterns this term, claiming that their decisions have been a “politically unpredictable center.” He added that the attacks the Democrats have been making show that they have misunderstood both the purpose and structure of the Supreme Court, which he claims is “ideologically unpredictable.” He noted that recent rulings, in particular, are evidence of this.

The high court has provided several conservative legal victories in the last term, which have passed mainly in 6-3 votes along ideological lines. This included striking down President Biden’s student loan relief plan, blocking affirmative action in college admissions, and even ruling in favor of a Christian web designer who did not want to create same-sex wedding websites.

However, the Supreme Court also struck down the Republican-drawn congressional map in Alabama, which marked a victory for the left.

McConnell also referenced a recent letter by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) in which he slammed the court and referred to it as the “MAGA Supreme Court.” Schumer’s letter came after the ProPublica reports about Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito accepting luxury trips and gifts from GOP billionaire megadonors.
