(TheRedWire.com) – For years, it’s been common knowledge inside the GOP that Senate Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is ruthless against opponents who challenge him. In part, it’s how he’s survived longer than a decade as the Senate’s Republican standard-bearer while GOP leaders around him have faltered. Now, it appears that McConnell has turned his ire on a previous aide to former presidential candidate and Senate majority leader, Bob Dole (R-KS).
Tim Unes worked for Dole for decades, first as an aide, then as the owner of a Washington, DC, based event planning company. The Dole Foundation contracted his company, which helped plan the former senator’s funeral for over a decade. When McConnell learned that the White House contracted with Unes’ company for the January 6, 2021, rally, he put a kibosh on the Unes’ contract for Dole’s funeral.
McConnell should have spent his time opposing the dems, rather than caving and then going after Dole’s longtime friend. He needs to go. https://t.co/7Jawy4OPZG

McConnell’s staff raised concerns about Unes planning the funeral services with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and pressured them to terminate their agreement with Unes’ company. They suggested it wouldn’t be improper for Unes to be involved in the event planning for a function at the US Capitol, considering his role on January 6.
Unes said he was forthright with the foundation from day one about his role with the White House rally on January 6, adding that he received a subpoena to appear before the House January 6 Select Committee. On three occasions, he offered to resign. The foundation did not terminate Unes’s company. Instead, the foundation ultimately accepted his resignation.
Elizabeth Dole thanked Unes for his service to the foundation and the late senator for more than three decades.
