( – ┬áCalifornia Governor Gavin Newsom called Trump “unhinged” for suggesting Biden used drugs to prepare for Thursday’s debate.

On Thursday, the Democrat Governor called former President Donald Trump “unhinged” for comments he made about Biden being jacked up on drugs for the primetime debate on CNN, claiming the remarks are “beneath contempt.”

Newsom, who was in Atlanta for the debate, served as a surrogate for Biden’s Presidential campaign.

Prior to Thursday’s debate, the former President has called for drug testing for himself and Biden, suggesting at his campaign rallies that the President is “pumped up” and “jacked up” in preparation for their first televised debate of this election cycle.

Hours before the debate began, Newsom told reporters at a media center in Atlanta that Trump’s remarks are “beneath contempt,” describing them as a “disgraceful tactic.”

The California Democrat suggested Trump’s comments are “typical of somebody who’s… unhinged.”

However, since Biden’s State of the Union Address, Trump and congressional Republicans have been suspicious Biden might be on performance-enhancing drugs since he came out with an extraordinary amount of energy for that address, a contrast to his typical sluggish demeanor.

On Sunday, four days before the debate, Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson (Texas) demanded “on behalf of many millions of concerned Americans” that the President “submit to a drug test” before Thursday’s debate.

Jackson pointed to the State of the Union address, claiming the President may be on “performance-enhancing drugs,” given his performance at the State of the Union address was unlike the Biden Americans had experienced for “the last three and a half years.”
