(TheRedWire.com) – In 2014, Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl vanished from his post, and Taliban soldiers reportedly captured him. Then-President Barack Obama violated the protocol that says America never negotiates with terrorists. He worked to secure Bergdahl’s release, and despite the warnings from the Pentagon, Obama negotiated the transfer of five extremely dangerous Taliban members in exchange for the American hostage. America learned soon after that Bergdahl was a deserter. Military officials court-martialed him and gave him a dishonorable discharge.

Apparently, Obama’s decision to veer from the normal practice of non-negotiations with terrorist groups stirred up a host of problems for the Biden administration as it negotiated the botched US withdrawal from Afghanistan. As it turned out, Afghan Taliban spokesperson Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa was one of the five individuals Obama released in 2014 who promised to remain in Qatar and out of the fray.
So much for the promises of a terrorist. Earlier this year, Khairkhwa sat at the negotiating table with Biden’s Afghan envoy to discuss the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. He helped draw the roadmap that led to the violent takeover of the country the US protected for two decades. Now, the United States recognizes Khairkhwa as the mastermind behind the regime change in the war-torn country.
To think, if Obama didn’t release the terrorists from Gitmo, would Afghanistan be in such peril today?
