Ocasio-Cortez Appears to Interrupt Speech of Top Republican

(TheRedWire.com) – House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) did something no one has ever done in US history on Thursday, November 18. As Democrats prepared to vote for their partisan Build Back Better legislation, the Republican leader decided to share his thoughts on the matter. He spoke from 8:38 pm to 5:10 am the following morning on the House floor. It was the longest continuous House chamber speech since 1909.

McCarthy’s speech forced the Democrats to scrap their vote on the bill temporarily. During the evening hours on Thursday, the GOP leader told House members that voters did not vote for Joe Biden to become FDR. At that moment, a female voice shouted out, “I did.” Numerous media members reported the female voice was that of Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

The House adjourned briefly and returned to the session at 8:00 am on Friday. Ultimately, Democrats passed the controversial legislation on a partisan vote and sent it to the Senate, where Moderates will likely chop it before submitting it for a vote.

In early 2021, Biden made it extremely clear he intended to abandon the Moderate stances he ran on in 2020 and govern as an FDR-style Democrat. In March, his signature $2 trillion COVID-19 relief bill passed on partisan lines, and his $1.75 trillion Build Back Better social program and climate change reform is going through the same reconciliation process. Biden previously stated he intended to transform government and society much as FDR did during the 1930s and 1940s.
