(TheRedWire.com) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., blasted CNN for hosting a town hall for former President Donald Trump, who is currently the frontrunner in the 2024 GOP primary.
On Wednesday night she took to Twitter to write that the network needed to be “ashamed” while also stating that they had “lost total control” during the event which ended up just providing a platform for Trump to reiterate his false allegations that the election was rigged, downplay the Jan.6 Capitol attack and mock E. Jean Carroll, a victim of sexual abuse.
In an interview on MSNBC on Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez proceeded to criticize CNN for their “irresponsible decision” to host the town hall, especially considering the network and the former President have had an ongoing feud for years.
The town hall also had a live audience which was made up of a predominantly Republican crowd in New Hampshire. This meant that Trump’s comments were often met with cheers, applause, and even laughter.
Ocasio-Cortez was not the only liberal to express frustration about the town hall. Many other liberals have accused the CNN moderator of not having done enough to fact-check Trump, adding that the audience further harshened her position. Trump even called host Kaitlan Collins a “nasty person” during the town hall only to be met by a positive reaction from the town hall audience.
MSNBC contributor Charlie Sykes said of CNN CEO Chris Licht that he was turning into the “Elon Musk of CNN.”
